Abstract
121,621. Dudgeon, H. A. Nov. 17, 1917. Boring.-A jig for boring has a base to carry the work and a pair of adjustable arms with sockets to guide the boring-bar which may be of the type described in Specification 118,746. The base a, upon which the work k, Fig. 5, is to be mounted, carries two uprights c, Fig. 1, horizontally adjustable by screws b' and locked by screws b<2>. The uprights carry plates c<2>, vertically adjusted and locked by screws c<3>, upon which arms dare adjustably clamped by bolts c' in holes c<5>. These arms carry ball joints e containing interchangeable sockets f tapered externally and of suitable bore to guide the boring bar. A test bar g, Fig. 5, is placed through the sockets and adjustments made till it occupies the position of the hole to be bored, the necessary measurements being taken from squares l placed against a projecting strip n. The ball g is then removed and the work k is clamped to the bed a which is then taken to the boring-machine. For a series of parallel holes, stops p of varying length are employed to set the work in its successive positions.
