Abstract

1,216,106. Stencilling-apparatus. P.ZIMMER. 4 March, 1968 [9 March, 1967], No. 10314/68. Heading B6C. Stencilling apparatus for printing on a web of material 2 having seams 12 comprises a longitudinally moving web support 1 and a cylindrical stencil screen 3 extending transversey across the web, means being provided whereby at least part of the weight of the screen or the screen and its associated mounting assembly is supported so that the screen is raised on encountering the seams and damage to the screen &c. is avoided. A plurality of screens may be arranged along the web and in the embodiment depicted weights 11 supported by chains 9 or cables passing over pulleys 10 balance exactly the weight of the screen, screen holders 4, a supporting frame 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, and pins 7 which extend vertically through longitudinal carriers 6. In modifications tension springs may be connected to the ends of the chains 9 or pressure springs may engage the pins 7 from below. Alternatively, magnetic means located above the screen may approximately compensate for the weight of the screen, the screen being vertically movable without a supporting frame. A doctor inside each screen presses the screen against the web. The doctor may be attracted by a magnet disposed below the support 1.
