[Also in Division C7] A fibre for reinforcing iron base alloys comprises a core of W or alloy thereof containing at least 98% W or Ti or alloy thereof containing at least 98% Ti, an intermediate coating of boron and an outer coating of titanium or aluminium oxide. The boron is applied by reacting boron halide, e.g. triflouride, trichloride or tribromide, and hydrogen, The core may be heated by passing a current through it. The titanium may be deposited by vapour deposition. The fibre is heated after coating. The aluminium oxide coating is applied by passing the fibre through an aqueous slurry of aluminium oxide. including trace amounts of Ca, Ag or Al, and then drying, and heating at 1200‹C.
