Abstract

1,215,643. Stud and socket fastening. TASKERS TRAILERS Ltd.. 18 April, 1969 [11 April, 1968; 15 Oct., 1968], Nos. 17568/68 and 48865/68. Heading E2B. A fastening device for securing a container to a vehicle comprises a housing having an upper surface, which, in use, consists of a part of a surface of the frame of the vehicle and a head element displaceable through an opening in the upper surface which opening corresponds in plan view to the shape of the element which is angularly displaceable, the head element either projects from the upper surface or is retracted below the surface through the opening upon angular displacement. The housing comprises an upper member 10, a parallel member 14 extending between spaced side walls 12, 13 secured to an upright wall, a stem 15 passing between the side walls and through apertures in the members 10 and 14 and a rod 16 passing through the stem with the head 17 at one end and a handle 18 at the other end. The opening in the member 10 has a similar shape to that of the head 17 in two directions at right angles. In an inoperative position, the head lies within the housing; to extend the head through a part of the opening to an operative position the stem 15 is moved axially and then rotated through 90‹ to free the handle from the lower ends of the walls so that a piece 23 of the stem having the same peripheral shape as the head can be raised and then rotated through 90‹ to align with the head and then lowered to seat the piece 23 on the upper ends of the walls. The handle is turned through a night angle and the head and piece 23 are inserted through a similarly shaped aperture in the container with the head extending above and by rotating the handle through 90‹ to the head is turned to the container retaining position. In a modification, (Fig. 6, not shown) the handle is pivotable for stowing within the housing and is releasable by axially pulling against spring pressure. The rod has, at right angles to the head, a spaced block of similar shape and a rotatable sleeve extends between the head and the block.
