Abstract
1,215,258. Hydroxylated solanidanes. OSTERREICHISCHE STICKSTOFFWERKE A.G. 24 Feb., 1969 [5 March, 1968], No. 9858/69. Heading C2U. Compounds of formula (wherein Z is CO, CH(OR-α) or CH(OR-#), R being H or an acyl group derived from an aliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, and X-Y is and wherein when Z is CO and X-Y is saturated there may be a α#<SP>4</SP>- double bond) which compounds, with the exception of the 3-oxo compounds not containing a #<SP>4</SP>- or #<SP>5</SP>-double bond, are novel, are prepared by treating, in a mixture of a water-miscible organic solvent and water, a compound of formula (wherein X 1 - is the anion of an organic or inorganic acid) with a compound which has an alkaline reaction in the presence of water. Compounds of Formula II are prepared from the corresponding 16,N-saturated bases by dehydrogenation with a mercuric salt, treatment with an acid (HX 1 ) and isolation of the desired salt from the resulting mixture (which also contains #<SP>22(N)</SP>-isomers of the compounds of Formula II) by fractional crystallization.
