Abstract

1,215,015. Mouthpiece-cigar manufacture. IMPERIAL TOBACCO GROUP Ltd. 6 May, 1968 [17 May, 1967], No. 22918/67. Heading A2C. [Also in Division B2] A band 35 of liquid adhesive is applied to the end of a cigar 10 mounted in a support 11, preparatory to attaching a holder 36 to the said end, by a spongy annular applicator 12 supplied with adhesive through a flexible pipe 26 by a cam operated metering pump 29 from a reservoir 33. The applicator is retained in a housing 13 mounted upon a rod 19 which is adapted to be reciprocated towards and away from successive cigars 10 positioned on axis 23. The coated cigar is then moved to another station for a plastic holder 36 to be applied and secured thereto. The applicator may comprise a series of circumferentially spaced blocks instead of a continuous annulus. On alternative pumping arrangement utilising the reciprocatory movement of the applicator is also described.
