Abstract

1497662 Adhesive applicator MOLINS Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [2 Nov 1974] 27352/77 Divided out of 1497661 Heading D1L In the application of adhesive to "cork" web for use in joining filters to tobacco filled parts of cigarettes, using a slot nozzle applicator, the nozzle is closed externally whilst the supply of adhesive is interrupted. The closure member comprises a roll 14, having a resilient nylon sleeve, pivotally mounted at 18 on a pair of arms 16, the outer ends of which support a curved plate 22 which lifts the web away from the nozzle. The adhesive supply line 30 is connected to an expansion chamber 26, the expansion of which, actuated by pneumatic jack 28, draws adhesive thereinto and stops the adhesive flow to the nozzle whilst the roll 14 is moved into and out of the closure position. The slot nozzle is divided by a ridge so that two strips of adhesive are applied to the web.
