Abstract

1,214,827. Purifying naphthalene. NOVOSIBIRSKY INSTITUT ORGANICHESKOI KHIMII. 8 Dec., 1967, No. 55877/67. Heading C5E. Naphthalene is purified by passing its vapour in a stream of gas over a silica-alumina catalyst at 300-450‹ C. and at a gas: molten naphthalene volume ratio of 40: 1 to 250: 1. The gas stream may be air or nitrogen. In a preferred process air and nitrogen are used alternately. The naphthalene may be fed at a rate of 0.2 to 2.1 volumes of molten naphthalene per volume of catalyst per hour.
