Abstract
1,214,717. Utilising holograms. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. May 9, 1968 [May 10, 1967] No.22146/68. Heading G2J. A reference mark is formed at a desired position along the optical path of an optical apparatus by locating in said apparatus at least one hologram of a desired reference mark, a source of coherent light and an optical system to form the holographic image at the required position. The hologram may be either aligned with the optical axis or located along a line perpendicular to that axis, the image being transmitted along the axis via a semi-transparent plate. In one embodiment a hologram 16, Fig.1b, is located in an arm perpendicular to the main axis of the apparatus, being illuminated by a coherent light source 12, the image being deflected by plate 19. In a further embodiment the hologram 16 is used to provide a visual image 24, Fig.2, of cross-wires at the focal point of a collinator lens 18 a distance P from that lens located externally of the apparatus. Another alternative in a microscope similar to Fig.1b, utilizes a hologram to provide a cross-wire reference image between the two lenses of the eyepiece and coincident with the image of the object under view. In a final embodiment a single hologram with two superimposed references marks is used in a sighting device to provide two aligned but spaced real images on the optical axis of the device.
