Abstract

1,214,690. Electric water heaters. SIEMENSELECTROGERATE G.m.b.H. 11 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 58995/68. Heading H5H. An electric water storage heater including a container 1 closed by a flange plate 6 carrying the water inlet and outlet pipes 4, 5, and the heating element 7, is characterized by its thermostat assembly 9, 10, 12, being thermally conductively coupled to the cold water inlet pipe 4, e.g. by a copper strap 11, and being situated in an air space 13 enclosed by the flange plate 6 and at sides 14, 15, by foam plastics insulating material 2. Switch 9 is operated via lever 12 by a bi-metallic member 10. The heater may be mounted below a sink. Because the bimetallic member 10 is thermally coupled both to the cold water inlet pipe 4 and to the flange plate 6 by heat radiation and/ or conduction, the heating element 7 is switched on as soon as the water in pipe 4 runs cold, e.g. when hot water is dispensed via outlet pipe 5, and is switched off only when the standing water in pipe 4 is sufficiently warmed.
