Abstract

1,214,398. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 Nov., 1968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 53495/68. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H4] A dynamic image converter system includes a cathode-ray tube which has an electron beam source for producing a number of electron beams lying in one plane and directing the beams towards a screen to form a straight line of impact areas thereon, the source comprising a common cathode 1, an independent control grid 2 for each beam and a common anode 4. The control grids 2 have apertures 9 arranged in a straight line and the anode 4 is provided with correspondingly aligned apertures. The control grids and anode may be formed as a single mechanical unit by electronically etching a metal layer provided on opposing major surfaces of an electrically insulating plate 3, e.g. of mica. The system includes a row of radiation detectors which are used to scan an incident field, the output from each detector being connected to a respective grid and the series of beams are projected in a corresponding straight line on to the luminescent screen of the tube and scanned thereacross in synchronism with the detectors. The number of detectors and grids each being equal to the number of picture lines in the final display, e.g. 40.
