Abstract

1,214,393. Abrasive articles. G. F. KEELERIC. 18 Sept., 1968 [18 Sept., 1967], No. 44328/68. Heading C4V. Abrasive articles are obtained by mixing abrasive particles such as diamond with filler particles which are thickest at their centre and have a smoother surface than that of the abrasive particles and spreading the mixed particles over a surface, applying a layer of bonding material to the thickness less than the smallest distance measured from the centre of the filler particles to the surface, moving the filler particles and applying a further layer of bonding material. If more than a single layer of particles is to be applied the surface of the object may, after removal of the filler particles, be provided with a new layer of mixed particles and a further layer of bonding material, followed by removal of the filler particles and this series of steps repeated until the desired layer of particles and bonding material has been built up. The bonded layer may be applied by electro-deposition and be of metal. The filler particles may be of spherical shape and may be of different colour from that of the abrasive particles.
