Abstract

1,214,228. Discharging sludge from centrifuges. WESTFALIA SEPARATOR A.G. 28 July, 1969 [25 Sept., 1968], No. 37777/69. Heading B2P. In a sludge centrifuge initiation of desludging is effected by means of a float 8 arranged in the sludge chamber 6 of the centrifuge drum 1, 2 and displaceable due to accomulation of the sludge in a direction towards the rotational axis of the drum, the float 8 being guided in its movement in the drum by means of a rod 9 sliding in a bore in the drum lid 2 and provided at its inner end with a body 10 of suitable material adapted, when the float is displaced inwardly, to influence the capacitance of a capacitor or, as shown, the inductance of a coil 11 fixed to a stationary inlet tube 12, the capacitor or coil being connected to an electrical control device 13 which initiates desludging when a certain capacitance value of the capacitor or inductance value of the coil is reached. The control device 13 may operate mechanism which closes an electrically operated valve 14 in a supply line 15 for material to be centrifuged and opens a valve 16 in a line 17 for supplying operating fluid to a valve sleeve 5 which controls the opening and closing of sludge discharge openings 4 in the drum. After a set time has elapsed, the valves 14, 16 are changed over again by a time-controlled device.
