Abstract
121,357. Sparkes, J. S. Dec. 15, 1917. Ropes, attaching to drums.-The socket m on the end of the winding-rope is secured to a lug o projecting from a plate p through an aperture in any one of a series of seatings a, b, c secured to the rim d of the drum e. The plate p is secured by a pin s passed through any one of a series of holes s<1> to a radial arm t which is bolted to a spur-wheel x freely mounted on the shaft v. For purposes of adjustment, the socket m is detached from the lug o and secured to the end of an auxiliary rope 10 which passes round a guide-pulley 11 and is wound on a drum 5. At the same time, the plate p is detached from the arm t. A countershaft z provided with gears y, 8, 3 can be rotated by hand to rotate the drum 5 and arm t together at the same speed, or the drum 5 only at two different speeds. The plate p may be supported on a pulley 13 mounted in the forked end of the arm t, and the arm may be made in two or more lengths. The socket m, Fig. 8, comprises parts 15, 16 made with dovetailed grooves which are locked together by pins 18 to form a conical socket 19 for the usual metal cone on the end of the rope.
