Abstract

1,213,570. Rear view mirrors. TECHNISCHE INDUSTRIE A. C. KOOT N.V. 23 Aug., 1968 [24 Aug., 1967; 14 Aug., 1968], No. 40384/68. Heading B7J. [Also in Divisions F2 and H1] An electrically operable adjustment means for azimuth and elevation adjustment, in particular for a rear-view mirror on a motor vehicle, comprises a sleeve-like support 1, a hood 23 carrying the part to be adjusted and means whereby the hood may be rotated selectively about the axis of sleeve-like support 1 or about an axis at right-angles thereto on journals 22. An electric motor 2 is located within the support 1 and has an output shaft 3 carrying an armature 5 slidable within a magnet core 4, the armature 5 being pressed downwardly by a spring 6 so that when core 4 is not energized a pin 12 couples the shaft 3 to a sun gear 11 meshing stepped planet gears 13 which mesh a toothed rim 9 on a fixed casing 8 and a toothed rim 16 on a casing 14 carrying the journals 22. Hence operation of the motor 2 in this condition causes the hood 23 to rotate about the axis of support 1. Energization of electromagnet core 4 causes pin 12 to move upwardly and couple a sun gear 19 to driving shaft 3. Stepped planet gears 18 mesh sun gear 19 and toothed rims 17, 20 provided on casing 14 and a disc 21 respectively, whereby operation of the motor 2 in this condition causes the disc 21 to rotate about axis of support 1. A rounded projection 27 on the upper surface of disc 21 engages a block 26 which is adapted to slide in a transverse guide 25 in the hood 23 extending parallel to the axis of journals 22. Rotation of disc 21 is transmitted to block 26 and slide 25 to effect rotation of the hood 23 about the axis of journals 22. In a modification, a motor-car mirror 28 is mounted on a coupling element 30 having projections 34 adapted to engage a cam 35 driven through planetary gearing 11, 13, Fig. 6, for pivotal movement about pins engaging holes 32 in member 30. Disc 21 carries a crank-pin 36 which is connected to mirror 28 by means of a rod 37 whereby on rotation of disc 21, the mirror is rotated about pins 31. All the casings and gears can be moulded from plastics material. An electric switch for controlling the motor and solenoid is described (see Heading H1N).
