Abstract

1,213,431. Gear grinding machines. OKAMOTO KOHSAKUKIKAI SEISAKUSHO K.K. 20 Jan., 1969 [17 Aug., 1968], No. 3102/69. Heading B3K. A gear grinding machine comprises a grinding wheel head 14 and workpiece holder both movably mounted on a base 1, a common drive motor 31, transmission means including a constant velocity universal joint to transmit drive to the workpiece during vertical reciprocation thereof, and a crowning mechanism. The grinding hob G is axially and transversely displaceable by slide members 11, 12 controlled manually by hand wheels 102, 122 through gear trains or by motors 111, 136. Angular adjustment of the hob about a horizontal axis is effected by the pivotal mounting of an upper member 13 pivotally adjustable under manual control. The work-table 24 is angularly adjustable on a vertically reciprocable slide 23 adapted to be reciprocated by hydraulic cylinder means 22 at variable speed. The hob G is driven directly through shaft 33 from electric motor 31 while constant velocity universal joints 37, 39 and a sliding engagement gear pair 41, 43 form part of the transmission to the workpiece. The crowning mechanism includes a band 230 trained over pulleys and attached both to the slide 23 and to a template holder so as to effect reciprocation of a template 236 the profile of which is followed by an hydraulic servomotor 250. The latter controls movement of a slide (249) carrying an angularly adjustable guide having a guideway in which a crowning member 263 slides to impart the desired reciprocal motion to a crowning shaft 165 connected through the feed screw 134 to the grinding wheel head 14. The machine includes a hob trueing means 5 adapted to be traversed by motor 84 in timed relation to rotation of the hob. (For Figures see next page.)
