Abstract

1,213,366. Measuring fluid flow. ILLINOIS TESTING LABORATORIES Inc. Nov. 11, 1968 [Nov. 13, 1967], No.53308/68. Heading G1R. In an air velocity probe, such as for use in an air velocity measuring system including an air velocity measuring device having an input and an output, comprising a conduit 16, a pair of tubes 20, 21, preferably of D-shaped cross-section longitudinally positioned within the conduit 16 and an air flow control member 28 telescoped in the end of the conduit 16 the arrangement is such that an air stream 38, having a total pressure consisting of velocity and static pressures, enters a passageway 30 and the velocity pressure component 40 is diverted, primarily, by a fixed baffle 36 into the tube 20 and a variable baffle 31 effects a fine adjustment of the air flow 40 to match a pressure indicated by a pilot tube standard. The air velocity component 40 is directed through a transverse aperture 48 into a chamber 54 of a range adjusting switch 12, containing a rubber bushing 54 against which the end 19 of the conduit 16 abuts and passes through a filter 60 into a tube 90 and through a duct 64, by-passing the filter 60, to the downstream side of the baffle 36. A rotatable range switch plate 66, rotated by a spring biased screw 68, is mounted at the lower end of the switch 12 and is provided with a plurality of co-operative pairs of apertures 70, 71, 72, 73 and a control aperture 74, Fig. 6A (not shown) which aperture 74 coacts with a screw 76 for securing the plate in position if needle valve 80 is housed in each aperture 72, 73 and places a different precalibrated resistance in the air stream path and therefore increases the range of the measuring apparatus.
