Abstract
1,213,007. Selective printers. OLYMPIA WERKE A.G. 30 Nov., 1967 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 54663/67. Heading B6F. A selective printer associated with a dataprocessing machine comprises a stationary, laterally open housing 9 in which is journalled a shaft 1 supporting by means of radial, diametrally opposite pins 2, 3 a plurality of concentric, axially spaced type carriers 8 each provided with a planetary gear 8c. The gear 8c meshes with a stationary sun gear 9a when a released pin 2 displaces a selected type carrier 8 radially towards the housing 9, thereby continued angular displacement of the pin 2 by the rotating shaft 1 causes the pin to become disengaged from its detent notch 8b and ride over an adjacent cam surface 8a to induce a hypercycloidal impression movement of the type carrier 8 against a recording medium' 13 supported on a platen at a printing station D. The selection of characters is effected by radially inward pivotal displacement of respective control levers 11 in response of a data control signal released at a predetermined time corresponding to the character to be selected. The control levers 11 have each a plurality of lugs 11a a selected one of which engages a stop 10b associated with a detent ring 10, one for each type carrier 8 so as to disengage a detent (10a, Fig. 1) from a notch (2a) in the radial pin 2 which in consequence thereof is displaced radially outwardly by the torsion springs 4, 5 to connect the planetary gear 8c drivingly to the sun gear 9a. When the pin 2 has been displaced angularly through 180 degrees along the cam surface 8a it abuts again a detent notch 8b at which time the type carrier 8 is disposed concentrically with respect to the shaft 1 and reset to its rest position. Machines with dual sets of types.-The type carrier is provided with two identical, diametrally opposite sets of types which are selected successively during rotation of the shaft 1 by timed operation of the control lever 11. Type-wheel construction.-The type carriers 8 are of annular construction and provided along their radially inner periphery with two diametrally opposite cam surfaces 8a separated from each other by detent notches 8b, which in conjunction with the radial pins 2 serve for maintaining the type carriers in a concentric disposition relative to the shaft 1. Each type carrier is associated integrally with a planetary gear 8c.
