Abstract

1,212,839. Moulding gaskets. DOWTY SEALS Ltd. 14 Nov., 1968 [24 Nov., 1967], No. 53551/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions B2 and F2] A gasket is made by depositing a layer of gasket material on to a temporary base 2 through a stencil 4, curing or setting the material and then removing it from the temporary base. Gasket material 5 (e.g. nitrile rubber, epoxy resin or P.V.C.) is passed through a screen 3 by a screen printing process into the stencil 4 and on to the temporary base 2 to form a gasket layer 8 having apertures 9, 10. In the gasket shown, a further deposit 13 is screenprinted around the apertures, either before, during or after the curing or setting step for the layer 8. A foaming agent may be introduced to produce a cellular construction. The temporary base 2 may be made of metal, paper or plastics and coated with P.T.F.E., silicone base material, wax or soap to facilitate removal of the gasket. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,051,747.
