Abstract
1,212,571. Heating blood. HORSTMANN GEAR CO. Ltd. 1 July, 1969 [3 July, 1968], No. 31683/68. Heading A5R. [Also in Divisions F4 and H5] Blood heating apparatus, of the kind comprising a thermostatically controlled electric heater 14 in a water tank 11 containing a blood circulating coil 24, is characterised by the provision of a connection device 19 placed above the heater 14 in the tank and comprising a broad conical lower portion 20 and a chimneylike upper portion 21 on which is removably mounted the blood coil 24. The device 19 stands on legs 23 so as to be readily removable, and its upper end 22 is well below the water level in the tank 111. Coil 24 may be wound on a frame spacing it from portion 21, or is wound directly on the chimney portion, or is really lipped thereto, free circulation of hot water between the portion 21 and the coil convolutions thus being possible. A "normal" thermostat controls the heater 14, and an additional "high" safety thermostat is provided in case the "normal" thermostat fails. Indicators comprising neon lamps are provided for the heater, thermostas, and other parts of the apparatus, and are housed in the control box 25, (see Figures 3, not shown, for circuit diagram). Fuses are also included. The connection device 19 is of fibre glass, as is the tank 11, although the tank may be of sheet metal or a casting. The apparatus has a drip stand clamp 30.
