A cooking stove 1 has a heating compartment 2 with at least one source of heat 18 such that in the heating area of the heat source is detachably disposed a heat-retaining plate 21. The heating compartment preferably contains a drawer 6 or removable carriage and the heat-retaining plate may be mounted on a supporting frame 26 in the front upper part of the drawer. The heat-retaining plate preferably stands with insulated feet 25 on the supporting frame and has insulated carrying handles (47) which are arranged outside the heating area. The heat source is advantageously an infra-red heating coil 18 and the heat-retaining plate is placed directly below the coil.
