Abstract

1,212,082. Releasable fastenings, wire mesh fencing. R. E. PARISIEN. 15 Jan., 1968, No. 2133/68. Headings E1B and E2A. [Also in Division B3] A fastener for securing wire mesh fencing 40 to a supporting post 41 comprises a helix 10 each coil of which defines a substantially semi-circular portion 38 having a substantially V-shaped portion 39 extending therefrom so that the legs of the V extend tangentially with respect to the semi-circular portion, to define a bend at the apex of the V for engaging with the wire mesh, the diameter of the semicircular portion being sufficient to receive the fence post and the dimensions of the V-shaped portion being such that the fence wire is held close to the post. As shown, the fastener is formed by drawing wire 17 from a reel 16, over a rotating mandrel 25 having a substantially cylindrical portion 26 provided with a tapered ridge portion 30 and a flange 28 whereby each coil of the wire so wound engages the flanges and moves the preceding coil along the mandrel towards the free end thereof due to the taper of the ridge portion.
