Heading F1A [Also in Division B3] A vertically reciprocated guillotine shear blade 40 Fig. 2 for cutting a metal plate 37 is pivoted at 42 to the face end of a rod 41 secured to an eccentric disc 45 driven by a shaft 8 and the plate 37 is held champed against a table 38 just before and during cutting by spring-returned hydraulic pistons 35 Fig. 1 subjected to oil pressure delivered by a pump plunger 4 connected by a gudgeon pin 5, connecting rod 6 and an eccentric disc 7 to said drive shaft 8; the plunger 4 being invented cup-shaped and slidable within a cylinder 3 and over a fixed inner inverted cup-shaped plunger 14 so as to provide an annular low pressure oil chamber 19 and a high pressure chamber 15 connected together by a pressure equalizing bore 18 in the wall of plunger 14 and at a level above the lower edge of plunger 4 at b. d. c. position whereby the high pressure in chamber 15 is maintained during the initial part of the intake stroke of plunger 4. The disc 7 is in advance of disc 45 so that the plate 37 is champed prior to cutting. During the initial part of the delivery stroke of plunger 4 oil is forced from a chamber 12 past a valve 17 to chamber 15 and into a duct 34 leading to pistons 35 at low pressure since bore 18 is open as is a second bore 20 in the cylinder wall. When bore 22 is closed by plunger 4 oil is formed from chamber 19 through bore 18 to chamber 15 and also past a valve 28 to chamber 15 and duct 34 to depress pistons 35 to a position where they abut the plate 37. When bore 18 is closed further downward movement of plunger 4 pressurizes the oil in chamber 15 and duct 34 so as to lift to a height "h" an adjustable combined pressure relief and storage valve 31 which controls a by-pass 30; the high-pressure oil in the chamber 46 of valve 31 being maintained until is relieved through bore 18 when uncovered by the returning plunger 4.
