1,211,814. Cottonseed cake. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ZHIROV. 5 June, 1969, No. 28407/69 Heading A2B. [Also in Division C5] Cottonseed cake is obtained by decorticating the cottonseed; crushing and heating the meats to not more than 90‹C. at a moisture content of 6-9 % by wt.; and extracting the cottonseed oil containing 60-80% of the total gossypol to leave a cottonseed cake containing 0.2-0.4% of combined gossypol and not more than 0.01% of free gossypol. Prior to the heating step the crushed meats may be humidified and maintained at not more than 35‹C. to swell the gossypol glandules and thereafter the meats structurised without expressing the oil. The cottonseed cake may be further extracted with benzine or hexane. Gossypol-free phosphatides obobtained by treating the cottonseed oil solutions may be incorporated in the cake in amount 1-10%.
