Abstract

[Also in Division C3] Wood, ceramic and metal (e.g. mild steel) surfaces are coated with a composition which is hardenable to a non-cellular solid and comprises: (I) 100 parts by wt. of an epoxy resin; (II) 0.5-15 parts by wt. of a siloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer; (III) 0-35 parts by wt. of an organic solvent; and (IV) sufficient curing agent to effect hardening of I. II may contain at least one unit of formula: in which each R is a monovalent, optionally halogenated hydrocarbon radical, R' is an alkylene radical, R" is an alkylene radical containing at least two carbon atoms, n is at least 1, R"' is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation and a has a value from 0 to 2. II may contain 15-85% by wt. of siloxane units. IV may be a polyamine. A filler may also be present. The compositions may be cured by standing at ambient temperature or by heating. The cured surfaces of coatings show good release and non-adhesive properties to tacky components deposited thereon and are suitable for floor coverings.
