Abstract

1.211.291. Milling cutters. A. WOLF. 22 Jan.. 1968 [23 Jan.. 1967: 8 Sent.. 19671. No. 3184/68. Heading B3K. A milling cutter having detachable cutter blades 4, has means for individually hydrualically adjusting and individually hydraulically clamping each blade. The blades 4 are carried in segments 2 arranged around a tool body member 1 and are adjusted against a centring ring 10 which may be placed around the milling cutter, adjustment being effected by rotation of a screw 29 which moves a piston 28 and thereby transmits pressure through a self sealing pastelike medium 22 to an adjusting piston 11. Similar means are provided for loading the clamping piston 5. In one embodiment, Fig. 10, the cutter blades are adjusted in radial and axial directions simultaneously by pistons 94. In another embodiment, Fig. 12, each segment has its individual hydraulic clamping and adjustment systems which are connectible to and disconnectible from common hydraulic systems in the tool body 126 through a ball type valve 130, 131. Opening and closing of the valve 130, 131 is controlled by movement of a screw plunger 128. Embodiments of the invention include a gang type profile milling cutter or hob (Figs. 5, 6 and 7, not shown) in which each segment carries axially spaced cutter blades each having its adjusting piston and clamping member operable respectively from the hydraulic systems in that segment. In all cases the centring ring is preferably formed in two halves and is located against axial and peripheral surfaces on the milling cutter, being clamped by means such as 116, Fig. 10.
