Abstract

[Also in Divisions B8 and D1] Web-feeding apparatus, more particularly for feeding thin films of thermoplastic material to forming tools operating on central parts of the web, comprises a pair of continuously driven endless bands or chains 10 one at each side of the web and each having a straight run adjacent to a web edge, the chains carrying U-shaped clips 16 which are opened by a deflector member 23 before they enter the straight run and which are allowed to close to grip the web as they enter the run. The ends of the legs 19 of the U-clip are bent inwardly and outwardly to form V-jaws 20, and one of the legs 19 has an extension 17 by means of which the clip is fastened to the chain 10. The working runs of the chains 10 may be parallel to the direction of travel of the web or may diverge slightly to stretch the web transversely. Also, the chains may be driven at the speed at which the web is supplied thereto or at a faster speed if it is desired to stretch the web in its lengthwise direction.
