In a process for the separation of hydrocarbons from hydrocarbon mixtures by adsorption on natural and/or synthetic molecular sieves, followed by desorption and accompanied by a rinsing process if necessary, at a temperature above 250‹ C. in accordance with the parent Specification, water and/or water vapour is added to the gas mixture accompanying the throughput and/or to the mixture of ammonia and desorption product during the adsorption, the desorption and the rinsing, if any. A Type SA sieve may be used to isolate n-paraffins.
