Abstract
1,210,422. Degassing. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 21 Jan., 1969 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 5040/68. Heading B1M. Water to be degassed is contacted with a countercurrent stream of stripping gas while forming a thin film on the inside wall of a cylindrical reactor. In Fig. 2, water which has been -treated as above with helium to remove dissolved air and CO 2 in a cylindrical chamber (1) (Fig. 1, not shown) enters at 25, sodium hypobromite solution enters at 26 to oxidise any ammonia in the water to nitrogen, the resulting solution is thrown onto the wall of cylindrical chamber 5 by cruciform paddles 31 to form a thin film where it contacts a countercurrent stream of helium introduced at 22 which strips the nitrogen from the water. U tube 11 maintains a liquid level in chamber 6 about one third of the diameter of chamber 5. The nitrogen is dried (7) and measured in a katharometer. Paddles 31 are rotated by magnet 33 which interacts with a rotating magnet placed outside chamber 5.
