Abstract

1,209,926. Coated sheet material. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. 23 Oct., 1967. No. 48104/67. Heading B2E. An image-receiving material for receiving ink-marking comprises a plastics surface having a first lacquer coating applied thereon and a second coating consisting of a copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl pyrrolidone whereby ink markings become firmly fixed to the surface. The second coating may be formed by application of a treating agent to the surface in amount 0.3-13 g./sq.m. and the composition may comprise 1-20% of the copolymer, which may comprise 5-55% of vinyl pyrrolidone. The surface may be etched before application of the coating, for example, by exposure to an electrical discharge. The coatings may be applied by a roller or bead coating. The surface may .be of cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate butyrate, cellulose acetate propionate, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, polystyrene, polymethylmethacrylate, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, phenolformaldehyde, melamine, polyester or polycarbonate.
