A device for tensioning in a radial direction an annular saw-blade 10 clamped between a tension ring 14 and a lock ring 13, the tension ring being threadedly engaged with a mount ring 18 and having an annular extension 19 engaging the saw-blade, comprises means 21, 34 for receiving and holding one of said tension and lock rings and said mount ring against movement, means 35 for peripherally engaging one of the rings that is freely movable, actuating means 39 for exerting a force along a line spaced from the engaging means, and means 36, 40 coupling the engaging means to the actuating means whereby the actuating means effects relative movement between the rings to tension the saw-blade. The saw-blade has its inner periphery coated with channels 12 and is clamped by screws 15 between the tension ring 14 and lock ring 13. The tension ring threadedly engages the mount ring 18 which can be secured by screws 34 to spacers 21 on a bedplate 22. The annular extension 19 on the mount ring upon relative rotation between the mount and tension rings deforms the saw-blade so that it is tensioned in a radial direction. To tension the saw-blade, a ring 35 is disposed around the tension ring and has a ratchet device 40 for engaging notches 37 in the tension ring. The device 40 is connected to a bracket 36 pivotally connected by a clevis 43 to the rod 45 of an hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder 39 supplied with fluid from a valve 55 and pump 51: Upon actuation of the cylinder, the tension ring is rotated relative to the mount ring, retraction of the rod 45 engaging the ratchet with a'further notch 37 on the ring 14.
