Abstract
1,209,778. Silver polish; abrasive silver polish. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 20 Nov., 1907, No. 52660/67. Headings C4V and C5D. An abrasive silver polish comprises water, a wetting or suspending agent, an abrasive powder and, as an anti-tarnish agent, a heterocyclyl thiol or an aryl thiol. The anti-tarnish agent is a substituted or unsubstituted tetrazole, thiadiazole or pyrimidine thiol, or a substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl thiol, e.g. thio beta naphthol. The wetting or suspending agent may be a fatty acid diethanolamide, an alkyl aryl sulphonate, a water-soluble hydroxyethylated fatty alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, bentonite or a mixture thereof. The abrasive may be alumina, silica or chalk. An optional addition is a petroleum distillate, e.g. white spirit, and perfume.
