Abstract

1,209,737. Spinning head for spinning artificial filaments. SOC. RHODIACETA. 21 March, 1969 [25 March, 1968], No. 15131/69. Heading B5B. A spinning head for spinning artificial filaments comprises a housing 22 to which is secured a spinneret 1 having extrusion orifices 21. The housing 22 is threaded on to the outlet 21 of an extruder (not shown) and immediately below the lower end of the extruder outlet 21 there are in sequence a cotton cloth 8, a support grid 4, two bronze screens 2, six nylon cloths 3, a further support grid 4, an annular distance piece 9, a stainless steel cloth woven in a repp weave and secured to a further grid 10. Below this assembly is an intermediate frusto-conical conduit 11 and finally a second filter 12 mounted above the orifices 20 in the spinneret 1, there being a small clearance 13 between the filter 12 and the spinneret 1. In an example, an acetone solution of cellulose acetate is extruded through a spinning head in which the cotton cloth 8 retains particles of 80 microns diameter, the bronze screens 2 has 200 wires per inch and retains 40 micron particles, the nylon cloths 3 retains 25 micron particles and the support grid 4 has 60 wires per inch and retains 28 micron particles. The stainless steel cloth secured to grid 10 retains 20 micron particles. The frusto-conical conduit 11 has a height of 7 mm., a diameter of 40 mm. at the upstream end and a diameter of 20 mm. at the downstream end. The microrepp stainless steel second filter retains 15 micron particles. In a second embodiment the construction is similar to the above except that the interior surfaces of the conduit 11 are convex and have the shape of a surface of revolution produced by rotating two semi-parabolas.
