Abstract

1,209,603. Mixing in conduits. M. S. E. HOLDINGS Ltd. 29 Feb., 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11484/67. Heading B1C. Fluent materials may be mixed by passage through a conduit 9 having means for causing alternate rotation of the material in opposite senses; as shown, loose wire helices 10, 11 of opposite hands. The helices may alternatively be fused to or integral with the wall of the tube, which may itself be bent into a spiral or helix (see Figs. 3a, 3b; not shown). The tube and helices may be of metal, plastics, glass or quartz. Such a mixing device may be suppliedby peristaltic pumps (2, 5) with liquids of different densities the flow rate of at least one of which is varied to produce a density gradient column (7, Fig. 1 not shown) such as is used in centrifugal analysis.
