In a non-linear analogue-to-digital converter of the type in which regularly occurring clockpulses 1, 2, Fig. 3, are counted 4 for the period taken for a reference voltage 18, 7 to rise to the level of the input voltage 5, the reference voltage (Fig. 1, not shown) is produced by a second counter 12 arranged so that the bits 13 in its lowest six stages are converted linearly 14 to a corresponding voltage which is biased and amplified 18 (Fig. 4, not shown) under the control of the decoded 16, 17 top four bits 15. The second counter 12 is fed with the same clock-pulses as the first 4, and they may be entered selectively 32 into any one of the first four stages. The biasing and amplifier unit 18 may be formed as a plug-in unit so that it can be changed easily in order to change the characteristic of the converter.
