Abstract

1,208,474. Electroconductive coating. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. 20 March, 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 20256/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3, D2, G2 and H1] An electrographic recording element comprises a support and an insulating layer in contact with a sheet or layer containing or consisting of an electro conductive polymer composed of randomly distributed units of formula and wherein A is 25-95 mole % of the total units, R is an onium group and X is an anion. Preferably R is pyridine, triethanolamine, N-ethyl diethanolamine, morpholine, 2-mercapto-ethanol, triphenylphosphine, trilbutyl phosphine or quinoline. Also specified are polymers wherein R is N-methyl diethanolamine, N-isopropyl diethanolamine or N-n-butyl diethanolamine. X is preferably Cl or CH 3 SO 4 . Many other examples of R and X are given. The polymer may be coated or impregnated into paper, cellulose acetate, polystyrene, polyesters or polycarbonate or incorporated into paper - making pulp. The electro-conductive layer may include saponin and gelatin. The insulating layer may be polyvinyl acetate. An electrostatic image is built up on the insulating layer using an electron beam and a pin matrix.
