Abstract
1,208,452. Zinc-air cells. ASSOCIATED ENG. Ltd. 7 June, 1968 [7 June, 1967], No. 26359/67. Heading H1B. A zinc-air cell has a fluidized anode, the airsupply for which provides at least part of the air supply for the porous cathode. As shown, air passes through apertures 6 in the bottom of the porous Ni cathode 2 and porous insulating container 3 into the Zn particles 4 which are fluidized thereby. Air also passes directly through the base of the porous cathode 2 into the aq. KOH electrolyte 5. After discharge the zinc oxide can be removed and replaced by fresh zinc particles. The air pump can be powered by the cell after starting when it is separately powered, e.g. by a battery or manually.
