Abstract

1,208,279. 4 - Hydroxy - 1,8 - naphthyridine derivatives. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 24 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 22188/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises methyl 4-hydroxy- 5,7 - dimethyl - 1,8 - naphthyridine - 3 - carboxylate and 4-hydroxy-7-n-propyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid and the baseaddition salts thereof. The former is prepared by esterifying the free acid with concentrated sulphuric acid and dry methanol, and the latter is prepared by hydrolysing the ethyl ester which is prepared from 2-amino-6-n-propylpyridine, diethyl ethoxymethylenemalonate and diphenylether. The compounds exhibit veterinary properties.
