Abstract

1,208,027. TiCl 4 oxidation. SOC. ITALIANA RESINE S.p.A. 28 Nov., 1967 [14 Dec., 1966], No. 54187/67. Heading C1N. In a process for preparing TiO 2 by vapour phase oxidation of TiCl 4 with O 2 , the reactants are fed into the reactor in the form of two separate annular conical jets having an angle of intersection of 50-110 degrees, and a flow of separately fed TiO 2 particles is maintained over the walls of the reactor. The temperature of the particles may be below 100‹ C. at the inlet, and the flow may be such as to maintain the temperature of the products leaving the reactor at below 600‹ C. The particles may be fed in a carrier gas, e.g. product gas. The O 2 may be preheated by burning CO therein. The reactants may be fed at 10-100 m/sec., and the TiCl 4 may contain 1% AlCl 3 .
