Abstract

1,201,356. Tetra-ammonium-dioxotricarbonato-uranate. NUKEM NUKLEAR-CHEMIE UND-METALLURGIE G.m.b.H. 23 Nov., 1967 [17 Dec., 1966], No. 53309/67. Heading C1A. (NH 4 ) 4 [UO 2 (CO 3 ) 3 ], tetra-ammonium - dioxotricarbonato-uranate, (AUC), is precipitated by the simultaneous introduction of UF 6 , vapour and liquid or gaseous NH 3 and CO 2 into water or recycled precipitation solution, the pH value being maintained from 7.8-to 8.6, the precipitation temperature preferably being up to 70‹ C. The AUC complex can be converted into a high purity UO 2 . The precipitation process can be carried out in a single stage either in batches or in a continuous process. In a continuous process a suspension of AUC in water is recycled through pipe 1 to mixing nozzles 2 and 3 from which it passes to tubes 6 and 7. At the top of these tubes gases UF 6 + CO 2 and NH 3 are introduced to the mixing nozzles. The recycled suspension and gaseous reactants pass into precipitation vessel 8 where AUC is precipitated. Some of the AUC suspension is withdrawn at point 10 and is filtered and the rest is recycled.
