Abstract

1,207,333. Boring bars. VERO MACHINE TOOL CO. Ltd. 30 April, 1968 [4 May, 1967], No. 20837/67. Heading B3C. A boring bar comprises cutter holders 28 fixed to a shaft 10, cutters 30 slidable in grooves 29 in the holders, and calibrated rings 33 rotatably mounted on shaft 10, and having spiral grooves 32 which co-operate with pegs 31 on the cutters, so that on rotation of the rings, the cutters are adjusted in the radial direction. Shaft 10 is of hexagonal cross-section with a triangular flange 14, and is releasably held in a machine tool spindle 17 by a nut 18 having a triangular aperture 19. The cutters are clamped in their adjusted positions by a screw 20 and spacers 21, 26, 25, 24, spacer 26 having dogs 261 which drive a spade drill 27. Two cutters can be accommodated in each groove 29. In a modification, a groove 29 is provided on the two faces of each holder, so that up to four cutters per holder can be used, in which case a ring 33 is provided on each side of the housing. Spacers of different lengths, or an adjustable spacer, may be provided. Adjacent cutters may be adjusted simultaneously by a ring having a spiral groove on both sides.
