Abstract

1,207,144. Alkali-metal aluminates. B. S. BAKER and L. G. MARIANOWSKI. 6 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 50435/67. Heading C1A. [Also in Division H1] An alkali metal aluminate containing alkali metal carbonate mixed therewith is prepared by firing a mixture of finely-divided reactive alumina and excess alkali metal carbonate so as to fuse the carbonate and effect complete reaction of the alumina, cooling and grinding the product. The alumina powder may have a surface area of 400 sq. meters or more per gram. The carbonate may be that of Li, Na or K. The product may comprise 40-70% of the carbonate and may be shaped into a disc.
