Abstract

[Also in Divisions H1 and H2] A sleeve of material having the property of "elastic memory" is axially stretched while in a heated state and frozen while in the stretched condition so that its heat recovery will be in the axial direction. While the sleeve 50 illustrated is described as bringing conductive members 60, 52 together guided by sleeve 56 to make electrical contact (see Division H2), one of the members could open or close a valve in response to a rise in temperature. The heat recoverable material may be plastics or metal and in respect of the latter the Specification includes some literature references. The sleeve may also have been twisted so that it untwists on recovery.
