In order to increase the rate of heat loss from the central portion of the fuse element of a cartridge fuse so as to ensure that the rate of heat loss is substantially constant along the length of the element, the element 20 passes through, and is in engagement with, several ceramic discs 50 supported in the fuse body 10.
