Abstract

1,206,540. Forging manipulator. B. RIBBACK. 23 Oct., 1968, No. 50296/68. Heading B3H. A forging manipulator comprises clamping means 4 for the workpiece and drive means mounted co-axially with the clamping means to axially reciprocate the workpiece which can also be rotated. The clamping means comprises a chuck connected to a tube 7 with a gear-ring 8 at the other end. The tube is rotatably mounted in a sleeve 13 with an integral piston 14 in a cylinder 15 which form the drive means. Thrust bearings 17 are provided between the sleeve and the tube. The gear ring 8 is driven by a pinion 12 from a motor 9 through a clutch 10. Alternatively the gear may be driven by a large screwthreaded shaft or by a stationary tube with large pitch internal screw-thread which causes the gear ring to rotate as the shaft is moved axially.
