A flexible coupling member comprises a tube having at least one series of equally axially spaced, generally circumferentially extending helical slots 16, Fig. 2, in its wall 12, the slots forming axially spaced helical beams 18 in the wall having greater cross-sectional heights than widths so as to be subject to tensile and compressive flexing upon the tube ends being secured to driving and driven torsional loads. Each tube may have more than one series of helical slots, the slots of each series forming a series of beams of approximately rectangular crosssection. The ends of the slots may lie in a single plane and the slots may extend around 270 degrees of the circumference. In another embodiment an inner tube 50, Fig. 7, is telescoped within an outer tube 54 and the tubes have slots of opposite inclination. In another embodiment the slots are formed in a pin 22, Fig. 5, between a first member 24 and a second member 26.
