Abstract

120,631. Baker & Sons, J., Kirman, H., and Taroni, C. E. Nov. 16, 1917. Bakers' ovens.-Gaslieated ovens, of any type in which the sole is n o t continuously passed through the e oven, are arranged so that the heat may be uniformly distributed, by moving the sole mith relation to the gas burners or the gas burners with relation to the sole, or by both these methods, by any convenient means. As shown in Fig. 1, a Ý1exible sole b is heated as usual by upper and lower. gas burners b<3>, b<4>, and it receives an intermittent movement alternately backwards and forwards by means of a driven worm c on a shaft having an eccentric c<2> connected by rods c<3> to oppositely-set pawl- and-ratchet mechanism c<5>, c<6> at each end of the oven, and from which motion is communicated alternately in opposite directions by spur wheels d, d' and end sprockets b<1> carrying the flexible sole. When it is desired to charge or discharge the oven, one of the sets of pawl-and-ratchet mechanism, for example, that of the charging end, is disconnected bv means of a clutch and lever, so that the sole receives an intermittent movement in one direction only. In the case of an oven having a draw-plate, the plate is intermittently oscillated by connecting a bracket beneath the plate to lever mechanism, alternately moved in opposite directions, .by an eccentric driven from a main shaft. When it is desired to withdraw the plate, the connexion between the lever and the bracket is removed by means of a hand-lever. When the sole is fixed, the burners are oscillated. as shown in Fig. 6, by connecting the two series of burner tubes i, i<1> by bars J<1> which travel on wheels k over tracks k', and. which are connected to the arms l of a rock shaft l' which is operated from a driving shaft b<4> by reducing gearing as indicated. The sole may be oscillated from side to side by means of eccentrics connected to the sole by links extending through the oven wall, the eccentrics being carried by a shaft driven through reducing gear from the main shaft. In a modification, the upper set of burners is fixed, but the lower set and the sole are both oscillated sideways by an arrangement corresponding to that shown in Fig. 6 for both sets of burner tubes. In another modification, the sole receives movement in an elliptical path by mounting the sole on brackets s<1>, Fig. 14, having ball bearings s<2>, and providing a pair of covers t which are pivoted at their ends t' to the sole and slotted at t<2> to embrace fulcrum pins t<3> carried by a cross bar t'. The other ends of the levers are each connected to an eccentric u mounted on a bracket u<1>, movement being imparted simultaneously to both eccentrics by means of bevel gearing u' driven from the main shaft u<3>, Movement of the sole or burners in a circular path is disclaimed.
