Abstract

1,205,076. Mudflaps. PARLATEX Ltd. 1 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54540/67. Heading B7J. A motor vehicle mudflap comprises a semirigid block of rubber or plastics material, including a lower mud deflecting portion B and an upper attachment portion A, adapted to be positioned slightly forward of the inwardly curved bottom portion of a vehicle bodywork panel 26 adjacent the rear of a wheel of the vehicle, wherein the portion A has an edge surface 12 together with an adjacent rearward projecting bead 14 on its rear surface 18 contoured to conform to the curved portion of panel 26 and a recess 16 is provided between the bead and portion A extending in a plane parallel to the surface 18 for securing the flap to an inwardly turned flange on the forward edge of panel 26. Portion B has a peripheral rear rib 10 and a ridge can be provided on the forward surface of the flap at its outer edge 6. A rearwardly projecting block 20 at the lower end of edge 12 carries a screw 22 and nut 24 for attachment to a longitudinal downturned flange at the bottom edge of panel 26. In a modification, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), portion A extends on both sides of bead 14 and the additional extension has an aperture to permit the flap to be secured to the vehicle body by a screw.
