Abstract

1,204,862. Water soluble polymers. PHARMACIA A.B. 1 Dec., 1967 [2 Dec., 1966], No. 54788/67. Heading C3B. [Also in Division A5] Linear or branched chain polymers have an average M.W. of at least 5000 and are built up of alternating groups of formula (or physiologically acceptable salts thereof) and intermediate straight or branched chain C 3-30 aliphatic hydroxyl containing bridges. The polymers are obtainable by reacting a 3,5- bifunctional 2,4,6-triiodobenzoic acid derivative with a bifunctional aliphatic bridge former, said bridge former containing or being capable of forming one or more OH groups as a result of the polymerization process. Examples of bridge formers are diepoxides, e.g. bis-(2,3-epoxypropyl) ether, 1,2-ethanediol diglycidyl ether, 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether or 1,3-glycerinediglycidyl ether. Examples of groups of Formula I are (R is an acyl group containing up to 5 carbon atoms). Examples of aliphatic bridges are: and The polymers may be used either in solution or in conjunction with a physiologically acceptable solid carrier as preparation for the X-ray visualization of body cavities.
