Abstract

1,204,800. Shovel excavators. RUSTONBUCYRUS Ltd. 13 Nov., 1968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 53812/68. Heading E1F. The dipper stick-carrying boom of a. shovel excavator has two aligned sections 8, 9 coupled together by means that prevent. relative linear movement but allow of relative rotational movement of the. two parts under control of an associated tilt mechanism. This arrangement allows of shifting of the plane of pivotal movement of the dipper stick about the axis of alignment of the two sections of the boom. Two preferred embodiments of a generally L-shaped boom are described. The tilt means, a piston-cylinder unit mounted on the upright foot of the boom, acts on a crank 27 secured to either a shaft 24 extending through the inner section to make a spline coupling 25 with the outer section 8 which is rotatably held in abutment with the inner section 9 by a collar 23 or to the inner end of the outer section which extends through and is rotatably supported in the inner section.
